Tapa Bar - Restaurants Victoria
Tapas Cha Cha Cha

On one of the two privately owned alleyways in Canada, Trouce Alley features the funky, hip Latin-influenced Tapa Bar. Adorned with pastel art and a soft candlelight glow, this south-of-the-border style restaurant plays Latino music while flavors of cayenne and chili waft out onto the patio. It’s an inviting and relaxing atmosphere, where one can easily slip into siesta mode.

After ordering a Purple Haze (a delicious vodka, blackberry schnapps, and orange juice concoction) from our smiling server, I have an opportunity to take in the menu, which is no easy feat as this restaurant definitely has variety. Just as its name suggests, the Tapa Bar serves a little taste of everything from the far south, while maintaining its Pacific Northwest basics (this is Victoria, after all). The majority of the options presented are tapas, or small savory dishes, priced at approximately $10.00 each. While entrée items are available as well, I opted for the Chile con Queso Fondue and the Mussels de Cha Cha Cha, which, were yum yum yum. The menu highlights several unique meat and seafood varieties, while including many vegetarian dishes for those who are carnivorously challenged. It only seemed fitting to finish the meal with a Caribbean-style Crème Caramel; muy bueno!

From the complimentary pumpkin seeds on each table to the open kitchen cooking, this Spanish inspired eatery is built on quality, with wonderfully compatible flavors. The Tapa Bar features daily drink specials and is open Monday to Sunday for lunch and dinner. No dress code is enforced, and reservations are recommended for evening dining.

Without actually booking your seven-day all-inclusive, the Tapa Bar might be as close as you can find in Victoria to authentic, original Latin fare. Fortunately, the cab ride to downtown is less than your airfare would be, and you won’t wake up the next morning with a terrible case of Montezuma’s Revenge.

Pásatelo Bien!
