Smoken Bones Cookshack | Restaurants Victoria

Smoken Bones Cookshack - Restaurants Victoria
Smoken Bones Ain’t Too Uppity Fer Me

Barely knee high to a grasshopper, Smoken Bones Cookshack celebrates its first birthday in Victoria as still the only Southern Barbeque influenced restaurant in town. Located on Station Road in the hoppin’ West Shore, this hot tamale is as close to a Mississippi momma’s backyard as we Victorians are gonna get.

With burnt red and orange walls plastered with prints of old jazz greats like Ella Fitzgerald and Miles Davis, Smoken Bones brings the atmosphere of a southern backyard as best it can. Regrettably, the restaurant is located in what feels like to be an old office buildin’. Thick black booths to slouch in and Louis Prima playing in the background help to disguise the poorly selected shop. Now that ain’t to say this Cookshack is in the wrong part of town. Sittin’ right on the corner of Station Road and Goldstream Avenue, Smoken Bones catches both the blue-collar lunch rush, the family suppers, and everythin’ else in between.

Do not, I repeat, do not go to Smoken Bones Cookshack unless you’re absolutely, unbearably, wildly starvin’! The entrée section is actually titled: “Big Food.” If you’re short on time and long on cravings, the Cookshack will serve you up more than just ribs n’grits. Home style cookin’ like hushpuppies and deep fried pickles will tempt yer taste buds before dinner for only seven bucks a pop. Main features starting at $9.50 including Po’Boy Sandwiches of Pulled Pork and Beef Briskett will surely fill yer breadbasket. Fer sumpthin’ to really whoop about, try The Flinstone: three full racks of beef ribs for $32.00. Oh, did I mention that every dinner comes with yer choice of two sides? Anything from creamy cole slaw to gooey mac and cheese, and homemade corn bread to Cajun beans. I’ll be tarred and feathered if this Cookshack don’t make you undo yer belt and slap yer pappy.

A feature beverage, the Smoken Bones Ale is definitely a tipper you won’t wanna miss. Medium bodied and available anytime to quench a workin’ man’s thirst, a few of these brews’ll git you walkin’ on a slant.

I recken Smoken Bones is sumpthin’ that all ya’ll should just give a try. This restaurant itself ain’t nothin’ to get yer feathers in a bunch about, but the experience is as scarce as a hen’s teeth.

Enjoy the cardiac arrest!
