Rosemeade Dining Room | Restaurants Victoria

Rosemeade Dining Room - Restaurants Victoria
Something old, something new; Something… Rosemeade

Ageless tradition of old-world charm meets contemporary design in the Rosemeade Dining Room, the English Inn & Resort’s stunning fine dining restaurant. Tucked away amidst the resort’s spectacular five-acre garden wonderland, the Rosemeade Dining Room is the diamond in the ruff of Victoria’s Saxe Point community. Since the English Inn’s recent total-property rennovation, much acclaim has been awarded to the hotel, however its true specialità lies within the character of its dining room and the flavours created by Las Vegas-nutured Chef Richard Luttman.

Backed by nearly a century of hospitality experience, the Rosemeade Dining Room boasts more than just a memorable meal. The English Inn & Resort’s million-dollar show kitchen is a one-of-a-kind in British Columbia and features a chef’s table available for an important occasion or as a bargaining chip for that special client. Italian furnishings including a striking eight-foot long polished stainless steel fireplace seems to effortlessly suspend off the warm floor to ceiling ‘ wenge’ wood wall. Oversized European-style, caramel sofas silently beckon diners at the entrance, ‘Grab a martini and come melt into me…’

By sourcing the best local ingredients, Chef Luttman easily creates clever dishes that are modern interpretations of traditional combinations. While the Rosemeade serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the latter is a true experience to savour. Appetizers such as Foie Gras Crusted Scallop, Artichoke-Crispy Bacon & Frisee Salad with Frozen Horseradish Cream tempt the tastebuds, while the Fried Duck Confit & Goat Cheese Crêpe, with Mustard & Shiso Greens, and Field Berry Cumberland tease the senses and leave you wanting more. The selection of starters average at approximately $15.00 per person. Entrées like 4-hour Braised Lamb Shoulder with Pink Peppercorn Gnocchi and Mint Pesto and Certified Angus AAA Beef Tenderloin, BBQ Shortrib, Crushed Fingerling Potatoes with Pancetta, 3-year old White Cheddar & Wine Syrup provide extra-sensory experiences to their devourers. Competitively pricey, mains at Rosemeade average at about thirty dollars.

Only slightly anti-climactic, the dessert menu offers a respite for those who just can’t decide. Guests are invited to select three out of a handful of one- to two-bite sized options as a sweet conclusion to a rich indulgence. While I found the desserts to be creative and interestingly presented, I thought the overall final course was a slow fizzle to the end of a luxurious evening.

Aesthetically drawing and engaging to all the senses, the Rosemeade Dining Room genuinely captures the soul of fine dining in an era long-forgotten, while allowing its diners to enjoy the luxuries of the century we live in today.
