Vista 18 | Restaurants Victoria

Vista 18 - Restaurants Victoria
Victoria’s View From The Top

Italian for ‘view’, and located on the eighteenth floor, Vista 18 provides Victoria diners with just that. With an incomparable 240° lookout, patrons can awe at sights that stretch from the city’s downtown core, to the snow-capped Olympic Mountain range, extraordinary Mount Baker, the Pacific’s Straight of Georgia, to the busy Inner Harbour. Perched high at the pinnacle of the locally owned and operated Chateau Victoria Hotel and Suites, Vista 18 is a resident success story.

From the hotel lobby, a swift elevator ride lifts guests to the top floor. Immediately stepping out into the middle of the restaurant and lounge, one is struck with the contemporary-feel of this establishment. Dark faux mahogany oak decorates the ceilings, walls, and furniture. Warming fireplaces, oversized booths and comfy chairs welcome guests to enjoy an evening of indulgence. While I found that some of the finishing touches were a little dated, the ambiance at Vista 18 was distinctive and inviting.

Executive Chef Corey Jessup injects free range, organic and local products into his Pacific Northwest fare. Unique creations such as Prosciutto Wrapped Rabbit Loin and Cherry Marinated Bison Flat Iron Steak dot the extensive Mains list, while mouth-watering desserts like Bailey’s Marshmallow Crème Brûlée or Warm Banana Pound Cake with Coconut Ice Cream gift-wrap the eating experience. Soups, salads, and starters are priced between $6.00 - $14.00, and dinner entrées range from $16.00 - $33.00. The wine list is brief but applicable. Open daily between 6:30 am to midnight; Vista 18 serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and Sunday Brunch. Reservations are recommended where possible, especially for notte dining.

A glossy lounge within the restaurant offers guests live entertainment on Friday and Saturday evenings. The melodic contributions of local, Canadian musicians from all different genres such as folk, rock, country, and blues leave an impression on Vista 18’s customers.

While the service at Vista 18 is a tad underdeveloped and minor fine dining details remain to be polished, this room with a view impressed me more than I thought it would. The rooftop restaurant wows both locals and Chateau Victoria Hotel guests amidst the stunning views of some of our capital’s best scenery.
